FREE CITY

Free City Supershop in Malibu is what Fred Segals was in the early 90's. Owner Nina Garduno, who was affiliated with the Men's Division at Ron Herman is the mastermind behind they overpriced and ridiculously expensive store for those who have far too much money for their own good.
A tee-shirt retails for $168. Ridiculous...but very chic.
Vogue and New York Times have already done special mentions of the items. Sadly, celebrities like Gwenyth Paltrow and Jake G. are sporting some of the tee's along with all the Palisades mommies, which has given this store that has been around since April 2005 and donated $90,000 (so they say) to artists a hit. I love the simple design and all that, but I am not that bad a fashion victim to pay $200 for a sweat shirt that cost $6 to make in China.

SHARON SUH IN KOREA!

I just returned from another international vacation..two week in Korea. My sister, mom and I went for two weeks. My mother had a Seoul University Reunion, so she invited us to come along and Shel and I travelled on our own to many different parts of Korea. I don't think that I have been to so many places in my life in that time frame, very unlike me to be the diligent tourist, but I thought it was a once in a lifetime trip and so I pushed through. It was quite fascinating. Here are a few visual highlights, but the most memorable places...cheonjiyeon waterfalls, Jeolmui Forest, Andong, JeJu Island and of course the cosmopolitan city of Seoul.
I had so much rice and kimchee, I have a new friend named Stella which I brought back from Korea. Its my new little pot belly. I like her alot, but being back in the states now, she may not last very long.
If you want to see more photos, you can go into my facebook album which you can get to clicking on the title above.

QUERCUS

Christmas is coming and Lucas left a scribbled note of this cologne with the website link on his bulletin board...which makes me think he was leaving it for me as a Christmas gift hint.
We found this cologne wandering the streets in Paris and we walked into the Pentihaligan's store. Based in London has been around since 1870 and its the "distinguished man's" cologne. They have a great shaving kit as well, but in general, its a fanastic store. I actually really like the scent so if you want to get something for your pops or your brother or boyfriend, check it out. I actually have never had a boyfriend wear cologne before, but if its going to be one, this is the one. Its subtle.

COMME des GARCONS at H&M!

Comme des Garcons, one of the great fashion labels of our time, has a designed a inexpensive line for H & M. I can't see these items lasting too long in New York, but in LA and other cities, you may have a chance. Check out the line...its pretty affordable and its fashion forward even for H & M. I am going to go tomorrow to check out the materials, but for all you fashionista's...run.

Check out the designs by clicking on the title above. This jacket shown runs for $129. There is a cute scarf too for under $50.

LISA ROCCHIO'S KIDS

I just shot the most adorable kids a few days ago, I had to post the photos. Sara, Jack and Wil Rocchio in Brentwood California. These kid are the most well-behaved kids I have ever met. I also liked this shoot because Lisa had one of the coolest homes in LA that I have seen. Amazing interior design. Three snaps for Lisa. Sorry for the tease, I don't have photos of her home, just the kids.

PAULETTE'S MACARONS IN BEVERLY HILLS

After spending so much time in Paris a few weeks ago, I love Macarons. I have been looking for some in LA, and I think I found the perfect Macaron!
Paulette’s. These are hand-made daily Beverly Hills, inspired by master pastry chef Christophe Michalak. They are delightfully bright and bold with the perfect amount of chewy that I like in a macaron. A mini-box of two cost $4...great for a party!
Viennese architect Andrea Lenardin Madden received the City of Beverly Hills Design Award for the concept and design of their shop. Paulette Beverly Hills was also recognized by prestigious I.D. Magazine, earning the 54th Annual Design Award for the Environment...a very cool place to check out if you are in LA. You can purchase their yummy macarons on line. Click on the title above!

(leave one in your car for emergencies...you never know when that big earthquake is going to hit). I like the green one.

GLOBAL KNIVES

While I was in New York, I stayed with my friend Christina again. She is also an fabulous cook, and so we cooked in alot. She made the most amazing bolognese sauce which is when I first noticed her amazing knives.
We did a few stories on Global when I was at Bon Appetit Magazine so I knew of the brand, but I had never used one. I had the Wusthof brand from Culinary School so never really shopped around for knives. The next evening when I was cooking for the group, I have to say that once you use a global knife, NOTHING IS EVER THE SAME! You have to try these knives!!!!!!!!!!Especially if you are a cook. LIfe changes. I can't recommend these knives more. I just ordered a set. They are on sale!

There are four series of Global knives, G, GS, GF and GSF. The only difference among the series is that the G and GS knives are lighter in weight than the GF and GSF knives. Global knives are manufactured by Yoshikin in Niigata, Japan. They were designed in 1985 by Komin Yamad and using the best materials and the latest manufacturing techniques, they were perfected to professionals and now the mass market. Best perk... Lifetime Warranty.

Check them out by going their website or you can click the title and it will take you to a link where I purchased them on sale!

DISH TOWELS

Hello!
I just got back from New York a few days ago and I have been a bit crazy lately trying to book the a bunch of people for my personal work, watching the debates, and doing some fall cleaning.
While I was trying to get organized and I realized that I needed to do a makeover on my kitchen. Rather than tear out the cabinets and the countertop, I decided instead to do a minor makeover due to debates scaring the pants off of me and making me think twice about my kitchen resdesign.

I decided, the new makeover...Dishes, towels and color scheme. Its a quick fix.
The first thing I did was throw out all my old dishtowels and purchase new ones. I have attached three different ones I was chosing from but I decide to go with the Grey William Sonoma Towels. Classic.
WILLIAM SONOMA come in a set of Four for $18. The colorful ones are from ANTHROPOLOGIE and the set of 3, sell for $24. Lastly, the white ones are from SUR LA TABLE. I like the all white...reminds me of a Paris kitchen. Set of 4 are only $9.95.

You can to to WILLIAM SONOMA's LINK by clicking on the title!

TAKASHI MURAKAMI

Takashi Murakami must be one of the most famous Japanese artists in our time. Both in the art world and in the commercial world, with collaborations with Marc Jacobs on the LV bags and Kanye West on the videos, has made him a almost a household name in Paris and Manhattan.

My brother in law, Quentin Curry, is wild about him and has purchased two original pieces. When I went to the exhibit this past year in LA, I wanted to get the special edition limited skateboards, but they were sold out. I am crazy about Kai Kai. If you are not sure who Kai Kai and kiki are, you should check out Kanye West's video of the trouble-finding best friends.

With his latest print series "My First Art" the artist presents a series of prints from early works - its most of the works that he became famous and known for.

Thanks to Openers website we get a look at the line-up of the prints. More images after the jump. Check it out by clicking on the title.

FRANK GEHRY COCKTAIL

I saw this surfing the web and if you are one of those dinner party throwers that want to really make a statement, check out this cocktail recipe. Its extensive and I can't imagine bothering myself to do it, but its quite impressive.

Check it out by clicking on the title above.

Ingredients
1 ounce water
4 ounces tonic water
1/4 ounce package unflavored gelatin
3 ounces vodka
1 teaspoon lime juice
1 pound sugar
2 ounces absinthe
Drop or two blue food coloring
lime peel

WEST ELM CONVERTIBLE COUCH

I am sort of digging this convertible couch. I have my guests sleep on a air-bed when they come to my place in LA but this sort of looks more chic and comfortable...Its $799, and it would be a nice bed for a college student or nice addition to an office space so that guests can have their own space when they come. CHeck it out by clicking on the title above.

ORANGE BEAUTIFUL MOTIVATES

These are hysterical and a subliminal message to quit smoking, lose that 6 pounds you keep talking about, or get over that jerk ex-boyfriend or fire that jerk contractor that never shows up...
All of the prints were printed by hand (in a limited edition of 100 each) on our large-format GOCCO printer. They're 8x10" in size (so, easy-as-pie to frame) - and they're available at Etsy shop for $12/each or all four for $40!
LOVE THEM. Check them out by clicking on the title above.

FRATELLI'S, HOT CHIP AND VAMPIRE WEEKEND AT THE WILTERN

One of my favorite bands last summer, rocked the Wiltern last night. THE FRATELLI'S. This show was in support of their new album Here We Stand. Opening acts are The Airborne Toxic Event who also rocked. We missed the 1st band before that Electric Touch.

If you don't know this band, its a upbeat melodic indie rock sound, and the electricity that comes from vocalist/guitarist Jon Fratelli and drummer Mince Fratelli is out of this world. The other brother, bassist Barry Fratelli sort of gets lost on stage with Mince just completely overshawdowing everyone with his hard rock energy and his good looks! This guys is fricken talented.

The bands full length debut, Costello Music, followed in September and features the singles "Chelsea Dagger" and "Flathead" are some of my fav's. Their new album Here We Stand was released in June of 2008 and should be a big hit too.

If you happen to be in LA this week, VAMPIRE WEEKEND is Rocking Wed and Thursday night at the Wiltern and HOT CHIP is here on Sunday! Also, coming in OCT is THE DANDY WARHOLS, who I also LOVE!

SHARON SUH PHOTOGRAPHY

Here are a few special moments of the last few weeks. I left Bon Appetit Magazine to travel and take photos. I have started shooting more kids, and I have to say, they are magical. I took some amazing photos, some of which I cannot post for privacy reasons, but in taking them, it made my decision to become a portrait photographer worth it. Here are a few since this is my personal blog and its not my website... I am particularly proud of these images. The mothers of these children should be proud and amazed at how gorgeous their children are.
Check out my website by clicking on the title above.

SHARON SUH'S APT THERAPY FEATURE

Before I left for Paris and Poland, I was featured in the LOS ANGELES APT THERAPY BLOG, one of my favorite blogs. It was sort of a fluke that this happened but at the time, I was looking for an apartment swap in Paris and then this APT THERAPY thing sort of happened when Lizzie Garrett featured my apt on her blog DESIGNWATCHER.COM. Check out the feature by clicking on the title above.

Anyhoot, I have been meaning to blog about it, so here it is. My apt in LA. I am redesigning the kitchen and the floors at the moment, so I will update photos later of the new kitchen!

SABON NYC

Inspired by my friend Christina Iwase in New York, I am completely in love with Sabon NYC shower gel. They also have fantastic tealight votives that I think APT THERAPY featured a while back.

For those of us that can't go to various store locations in Manhattan ( Lex and 61st , B'way and 71st, 6th Ave near 9th street, Spring and B'way store, or the Prince and Wooster), we can order it online at the sabonnyc.com!!!
Check out the line by clicking on the title above. My favorite scent on line is out of stock, the lavender rose, but the lemon basil is very nice as!

FRETTE TOWELS AT BLUEFLY.COM

I am finally in LA. HOME. After staying in Paris for a month, Poland for a week, Hampton's for a week, and Manhattan for a few days, I was ready to get home into my comfortable bed and my own apartment! I was dreaming abou sitting on my couch and watching a movie with my favorite missoni throw blanket!!!
I stayed at my friend Christina Iwase's place in Manhattan. She lives on the upper east side, next to Eat on 81st, and I have to tell you, Christina knows how to live in luxury. Lucas and I arrived at her spacious apt, and only the best for guests. Luxurious Frette bedsheets and towels, tasty champagne from France, white wine specially ordered from the wine country in California, tasty homemade meals with ingredients only from the most posh deli's in New York...fancy Sabon shower and hand soap in Lavender and lemon scents ...I felt like I was Bill Clinton with slanted eyes.

With all the luxury I experienced at Christina's...I have total bath towel and bedsheet envy. I bought Matteo bedsheets a few months ago which I TOTALLY LOVE, but there is nothing like sleeping in FRETTE. They are the best. I have the Missioni bathtowels but again, nothing like FRETTE. They are the softest most heavenly items I have experienced in the last 5 weeks.

Blue fly is having a big sale right now and sheets, duvet,s and bath towels are 50% off. No more hand towels available. Check out the sale by clicking on the title above!
Go Christina!

John Derian, one of my favorite designers, has designed an affordable line at Target. It just came out on Sept 9th, and I am so excited because its so affordable. There are some very obvious pieces that are clearly John Derian like the bird tray, and the butterfly basket or coasters, and the treel/leaf vases but check it out for yourself. There are my favorite items, most of which are under $20!
Check out the full line by clicking on the title.
