JOANIE

As much as I raved in the last post about Girls, I do still love Mad Men.

Matt Weiner, and his writers and his chosen cast are brilliant. He knows it and so do they. I love that everyone is so cocky about it.

The last episode, was a bit haunting, depressing and also, intriguing. Joanie selling her body for a piece of the pie. Makes you wonder, if you were a newly single mother, and the opportunity presented itself, would you?

There is a fantastic interview Christina Henricks did with GQ. Click on the title above to read it.

LENA DUNHAM THE GAMECHANGER

Lena Dunham is my new favorite director.

Lena Dunham is a game changer.

I used to think that Matthew Weiner and Diablo Cody were genius, but now, Lena Dunham is my favorite. I find myself wanting to stay in on Sunday's to see her show. I'm slightly obsessed. I'm turning into one of those people I make fun of...people that stay in to watch TV shows. I don't think I've been this blown away or had a girl crush (I'm straight), since I was 13 with Olivia Newton John. (I'm not a stalker, just sayin)

I'm jealous actually. I'm jealous of her talent, and her story, and her ability to cast the perfect cast. Lena Dunham is so comfortable with herself as an actor giving herself the most raw and vulnerable sex scenes of all the actors, and if you watch the show, you can see for yourself what a spectacular director she is. There were a one attempt by Jesse Peretz and one by Richard Shepard directing two episodes...which didn't come close to the three other episodes she directed. Lena...please direct them all.

Her eye as a cinematographer, setting up awesome shots blows me away. Her direction inspires the most genuine scenes from the actors...its total perfection in a modern way. The styling is perfection as well.

I love Jemma Kirke. I read that she's actually a painter, and graduated from the Rhode Island School of Design, and is the daughter of rocker Simon Kirke from Bad Company. She also had a daughter right before the show started...what is up with all this talent. She's probably the hottest female actress on TV right now.
Zosia Mamet who plays Shoshanna is also a scene stealer. I feel bad for her that all people will bring up is that she's David Mamet's daughter...she fucking talented. She was great as the gay photo editor in Mad Men as well. You can tell that she's getting more confident as an actor and her neurotic scenes are so hysterical, you have to love her.

Lena and Jemma Kirke will win a Emmy's this season...and so will Judd Apatow. Its in the bag. Lena's NYC roots, and her liberal upbringing with artistic parents, makes her the coolest chick in Hollywood. How lucky was Judd Apatow finding this gal.

Move over Jason Reitman, you've got serious competition.

Watch this show. Seriously, watch it.

GUCCI AND REVLON

One of my favorite makeup artists (next to Dick Page), is a woman named Gucci Westman. I worked with Gucci back in the Vanity Fair and InStyle days when I was a photo editor. Gucci was a spectacular talent, and was such a sweet and amazing person that made everyone feel good. Also, she just happens to be the most gorgeous being on the planet.
When I would get big shoot to commission out, I always wanted her to be on set, since she had such a great energy. This of course, was before she became a superstar but before the career success, she was always just the coolest chick on set.

She has moved on to be Revlon's global artistic director. As one of the most sought after makeup artists in the biz, she's brought in new fresh talent at Revlon and I think it super cool. Emma Stone and Olivia Wilde were very good choices since they are both approachable and down to earth women she is.

Check out her ad's.

SMARTWATER IS THE BEST

I like Smartwater.
We would buy in bulk when my dad was going through chemo 6 months ago and he had to drink two large bottles a day. He said that it was the water that tasted the best and he's right. Here are Jennifer Aniston's new ad's that come out in June.

1stdibs.com

This is the coolest blog since satorialist. Its like the craigslist for the fashion and hip elite. I love the spotlights it does on in their introspective magazine. Its the who's who...the stuff Vanity Fair or W should be covering but they don't...Check it out...

WES ANDERSON MOONRISE KINGDOM-ITS OUT TODAY

I love Wes Anderson's movies. He's the best dressed director in the movie biz, easy on the eyes and a genius at making awkward long takes with the best actors in Hollywood just un-typical and hysterical. He has a artistic hip coolness factor that gives him credibility with these genius actors.

I can't wait to see his new film Moonrise Kingdom which releases TODAY (May 25th), with regular star and my favorite..Bill Murray, Bruce Willis, Edward Norton, Frances McDormand, Harvey Keitel and Tilda Swinton and Jason Schwartzman.

I googled the movie and found all the info on Wikapedia. Wikapedia writes:

In 1965, a pair of young lovers (Kara Hayward, Jared Gilman) flee their New England island town, prompting a local search party led by the Sheriff (Bruce Willis) and the girl's parents (Bill Murray, Frances McDormand) to fan out to find them.

The link above will take you to a Q and A he did for the Huffington Post with Christopher Rosen.

HOT LADIES & A MEAN ARTICLE ON UGLY...

Leave it up to the Brits to find hot ladies with ugly feet. What is it about the English and their fettish for toes? Check out this article I found by clicking on the title.

HOOVER WINDTUNNELMACH CYCLONIC VACCUM

Ok...I'm officially an old lady. I'm blogging about vacuums.

... but this one is pretty fricken awesome.

Its loud, heavy and high tech...but if you have allergies like I do, then you need to get this.
I have hardwood floors and carpet and if you don't mind the weight of it and the obnoxious noise...Its unbelievable. I just think of all the dustmites and god knows what its killing so it makes me feel better.

I was going to buy the Dyson vacuum, but a friend of mine told me about this and she told me to go to Home Shopping Network and see the video on it.

I purchased two, it took 5 days to get here, free shipping and I assembled it myself after having two tantrums in the process.

The vacuum picks up so much dust and dirt and hair, it makes my skin crawl to see it all in the vaccum. If you can't afford a Dyson, this is a very good alternative to cleaning up your pad.
It was $159 on HSN (with free shipping) a few days ago (may 2012) but I think its sold out. I just found it on Amazon.com for $199. I would check in with HSN in a few days...

MICHAEL MORAN

Every since I got back from Europe, I noticed that I have been gravitating toward Rustic items. I guess it was the week in Italy and Ireland that did it. I love my post century modern apt, don't get me wrong, but there is something quite fabulous about having aged wood and neutral colors to chill you out...check out this website by clicking on the title above. Its amazing...

Non-sequitor...if I hear another person say, AMAZEBALLS, that is over 30, I think I will just kill myself now. What happened in the 7 weeks I was out of the country, where all the adults in LA talk like their 11 years old?

JAYSON HOME

I was looking at an interesting magazine I like that my friend Kimberly turned me onto, Garden and Gun, and I found this website which has some very cool rustic good for the home.

WHISKEY STONES FROM TEROFORMA

This is a great item for all you whiskey and tequila drinkers who want your delicious and carefully made spirits to have the pure taste it was meant too! Ideal for chilling your favorite spirit without diluting its flavor. If you add three or 3 chilled stones to your next drink, after a 5 minute chilling period...perfection. The stones are small so this is not ideal for cocktails or sodas! The glasses pictured are from teroforma.com... a set of 6 glasses with the stones is $60. However, I would buy just the whiskey stones and use glasses you already have!
.

If you click on the title above, the link will take you to amazon where you can get them for $19!

STONEHOUSE FLAVORED OLIVE OILS

I've been a little obsessed with flavored olive oil. I vowed never to cook with plain olive oil or grape seed oil again. I was on a culinary adventure in LA two weeks ago with a friend from Londonm Guy Harrington, who used to be a chef. I wanted to show him that LA does have some great restaurants. Hatfields, Gjelina, Tasting Kitchen, and Companile. (we went to Bouchon and it was SUCH a dissappointment).

What was common in all the places... they used Garlic , Lemon or Basil Oil.

I went on another culinary adventure to fine the best flavored Olive Oil. I googled and went to a few places like William Sonoma and sur la table.

...STONEHOUSE was the best.

When I was the photo editor at Bon Appetit Magazine, there was a brilliant editor, Amy Albert, who did a story on this olive oil company based out of Northern California. They have a store in the ferry building.

Its affordable and they ship within a week.
After I got the oils, I have refused to eat out since everything taste so good at home now.
I made some regular spaghetti pasta with the garlic Olive Oil, a tiny bit of butter and salt and pepper. Some shaved Parmesan and fresh basil...AMAZING.

MARCONA SANDWICH AND SALAD SHOP

I was reading on KEVIN EATS about this new place that opened up in mid march.
Its down the street from my apt in LA. I'm so excited. KEVIN EATS always find the BEST PLACES!!! ...its just DAMN GOOD! Check out his review on Kevin Eats. The food photos posted are his.

Marcona is an east coast style sandwich joint with influences from all over the world. I like that the deli supports local farmers and the owner, Collier Ulrich keeps it real with the counter style service. I was just in Spain a few weeks ago and the Meguez sausage gyro, with Piquillo Peppers made me think of Spain. Yum.

DASH MANLEY

A friend, Laurie Firstenberg, one of LA's best art curator's told me about a artist name Dashiell Manley.

Dashiell Manley was born and raised in California. Mr. Manley got his BFA at Cal Arts and his MFA at UCLA in 2011. He doesn't have representation either which makes him a bit more mysterious as well. His work is fresh, unique and he is going to have a big year.

His works will be at LA HAMMER in conjunction with LAX art coming June 2, Lord Reynolds Gallery in Austin, and the Silverman Gallery in SF.

I personally love the double sides pieces he's recently been working on. The pieces can be flipped around for another totally different interpretation of what he's trying to show.

He is fresh out of school and already one of the most intriguing young artists in the LA Art scene. IF your an editor, this is a good find for you to do a piece on. He's young, talented, and has the world at his oyster.

I shot his portrait yesterday. Pretty easy on the eyes as well.

Fit Flop Fabulous

I was always the girl that wore high heels...
I would walk in them to work, on the subway, and never thought twice about it.
Now, not so much.
I was over at my friend Kimberly's house and she had just ordered three pairs of these. I have NEVER tried on more comfortable shoes that these. I think this might be a great buy for this summer. I going to put away the Sigerson Morrison sandals this summer, and try the Fit Flops when I'm doing errands. Its good for your back, and you will get more mileage out of your day with comfort. There are ton's of styles, and with skinny jeans and a tank, I think you can get away with it.

Am I 'm turning into my mother... Oy.
