APC

I was in the APC store the other day and I have to remind all of you not to forget about this wonderful little things in this store...like these cute red and white tennis sneakers for $140, or the classic dark denim jeans for $160, and they have fantastic music CD mixes for $15. Expensive yes, but they keep it real and its classic and I promise you the things you get there will be in your closet for a few years.

Stores like APC, Helmut Lang (even though Helmut Lang doesn't design for Helmut Lang), and Steven Alan have the coolness factor that most LA girls don't. I try and stay as far away from Kitson and BCBG as I can, and stick to cool shit. If you can't afford it, then try H and M, who has great knock offs of the above designers. I don't want to knock all you Kim Kardashian look alikes, but if you went to NY for a week, the fashionista's there would eat you for breakfast.

SHARON SUH DAILY CANDY

I was quite excited that Daily Candy did a story on my photography this week. Funny how things happen right when you need them too. Thanks to Heather John-Fogherty of the foodinsta blog, who told editor Andrea Arria-Devoe who pitched Lindsey Gladstone, I might have a shot making a cool gig. Check out the little write up by clicking on the title.

SIMPLY AUDIOBOOKS

This is the best find. I am and have acclimated to to LA's traffic and road rage. How?
TWO WORDS. SIMPLY AUDIOBOOKS. Its the netlflix of audiobooks for the car. For less that $20, you can have a new book, interview or radio/tv show to listen in the car if you are too lazy or too busy too download it on your ipod. So many portals, so little time.My friend Linda told me about this after I was spending hundred's of dollar's on buying audiobooks. She is a very smart girl and did her homework and found this.
Check this out. Its will change your life in LA. Click the title to get started.

LA ROCHE-POSAY ANTHELIOS 60 SPF

I am a naughty girl. I don't wear SPF unless its in my makeup, because when I do, I break out. I break out if its the expensive brands or the cheaper lines.
HOWEVER, my friend Jojo who works at L'oreal told me about this line that L'oreal has called La Roche-Posay. This product is amazing. IT a greaseless fluid you put on, and its ultra light and has a matte finish. Its says SPF 60, but we all know it only works to about 30.
Its so light, and doesn't do the white ghost face thing, that I think you should all run to CVS or the Amazon and order it. Its amazing. Jojo...thanks for saving my skin!

You can purchase it on Amazon for $20.(Click on the title above) or at CVS, for around $28.

DRINK TEA

The older I get, the more I realize that everything my grandmother does it good. EVERYTHING. Drink Tea she says...drink tea...eat one kiwi, half an avocado, egg, cucumber, and tomato a day, lots of kimchee, and a multivitamin and you will never get sick . She is 91 and still cooks. Lets drink more tea, shall we?

This will help you get in the habit. It helped me...$30. To purchase, click on the title above.

RED WINE AERATOR

This is the best find I think I have found this year. This is a surefire way to take a $15 bottle of wine and make it taste like a $50 bottle. The aerator breathes life into any wine if you don't have time to let a bottle rest in a decanter for 2 hours. It helps the wine open up with the air, to make the full flavor of the wine, killing the acidity. I think its a great gift...$40.

OLD NAVY YOGA CLOTHES

I started doing Bikram Yoga a few weeks ago. Its the most challenging thing I think I have ever done, and each time I Do it, I swear that I won't ever do it again. Its INTENSE, and serious a time commitment of 90 minutes in a hot 105 degree room doing 26 poses... with a bunch of sticky sweaty people. I know, it doesn't sound enjoyable at all, but when you leave there, 2 lbs lighter with all the toxins in your body out of you, its sort of a euphoric feeling and also a feeling of accomplishment.
It has cured my insomnia which I have had for the last month and I just feel cleaner. I needed to get some appropriate workout clothing and so I went to lululemon and nearly died when I paid $90 for workout pants and $50 for a bra tank top. I quickly decided this was stupid and I went to Old Navy. They had some great things for 1/2 the cost, and they are actually having a sale right now. I attached the items I purchased and a few other things that were not on the website, and I got myself some cute affordable things without feeling like I just got robbed. Click on the title above to see the activewear section but best to just go to the closest Old Navy. The bratops were under $15, and the pants, under $17.

MARK GLOSSBLOSSOM LIP GLOSS

A friend of mine who is a stylist told me about this product a few weeks ago. I hate lip gloss but her lips look so naturally pink, with a slight shimmer that I had to ask what she was wearing. She lives by this, and has them all over the place...one in her car, in her bathroom and her purse. She told me to order them online...only $6.50. I just ordered one. If you want to try it, click the title above.

ZAC POSEN FOR TARGET

I love Zac Posen, but his new line for Target which is in stores... Boooo Zac. What's up with you? It looks like a BAD Contempo Casuals from the 80's which could have been done cool... but it just was NOT.
There are two items that I liked, a scarf and a bathing suit..both under $40. You might like some of his stuff. Check it out by clicking on the title above.

EUGENIA KIM AT TARGET

Run. Click on the title to see more of the hats she has for $16.99. The one in Eagle Rock has a few left or go online by clicking on the title.

THE HIVE IN SILVERLAKE

Hip Girl Hair. That is all I have to say about The Hive. Its my new place in LA. Its one place that everyone that walks out, looks hipper, stylish, and cooler than they did when they walked in. Even if you think you don't like it your hair cut, you look better...believe me. You just need to let go of your 90's hair.

The owner, LISSA RENN, (pronounced LISS-A not lisa), is a mid-20's hip chick that used to work at Rudy's on Melrose. She had such a big following that she decided to open up shop for herself. I have gotten my haircut by so many big stylist over the years..Frederick Fekkai, Sally Hershberger, Oscar Blandi, Guido, and the list goes on over the years, but honestly, my hair has never looked better. I like the rock and roll haircut. For you gals like adventure, they have washable feather extensions that Lissa talked me into after she got a few a while back and its pretty cool. Cheap too...$15 per feather, and NO one does it. Its a nice touch to the boring hair.

Lissa takes regular mousey hair and does her magic to make you look like a Williamburg hipster, or can take a young mom and give her some style without making her look like she walked out of a boring Frederic Fekkai type of salon with that perfect boring hair.
Malina and Jeremy are the other stylists and they seem very talented and have gotten great reviews on yelp. Best of all, with the recession hitting all of us, haircuts are $38 for short hair and $48 for long.
I highly recommend Lissa and after your haircut, you can go to LOCAL, a restaurant nearby that serves fresh healthy food from local farmers and vendors or MEETING PLACE...which is a vegan restaurant that is pretty tasty. Tell her that Sharon Suh sent you!
