KIRSTY HUME HOLIDAY CARDS

The hippest people in town and out of town are ordering Kirsty Hume Holiday Cards this year.

She was always one of my favorite models a decade ago on the pages of Harper's Bazaar, and her ultra hip and gorgeous husband, Donovan Leitch, was always one of my favorite actor/musicians. (His sister is actress Ione Skye, another favorite of mine).

You can have a little dose of their ultra chic hip factor by ordering her cards online. Check it out by clicking on the title above.

L'EPICERIE MARKET IN CULVER CITY

I read on Daily Candy that L'Epicerie Market in Culver City opens anyday now. What cool lunch spot to meet a foodie friend. Check it out.

TEE PEE IN THE HOUSE

I saw a teepee (or tipi?) at a client's house a month ago, Lauri Firstenberg, and thought, she is so cool.

What a great gift for a kid or an immature husband or boyfriend for the holidays. Kids love teepees, and so do guys.

Whether its a kids sleepover or a romantic night out in the backyard with your significant other on date night, (most definitely not on the same night if you have kids), this one is $245. Check it out by clicking on the title above.

DIY FROM IKEA

I have been looking for a new shelving unit which was sparked by a dinner party I had the other night. My friend Anastasia Bowen who worked for an architect for many year suggested that I mount the TV on the wall rather than putting it on the vintage credenza I have, and open up the space a bit more. She has exquisite taste and is my high end design expert and totally agree.

There is amazing blog called IKEA HACKER which I read often for ideas. Ikea is the affordable place to go for a quick visual fix in the house...sort of how H&M is for my closet. I found this DIY project. I had this lacking shelving unit in mind to put two or three white units together against the wall to make one long unit for extra seating, and place misc things on such as books and plants. I like what they suggested and you can see how they turned it into a bench below.

Materials: Lack shelving unit, Capita legs, Iris chair pads

Description: This may not be a new idea, but I though I would share the end result!

Instructions: We made the benches before we had the table, only because we had them in storage. I love the look, but as a vertical unit they are not that practical. The benches are Ikea Lack shelving units turned on their side. Please note, their needs to be some attention taken to the amount of weight that the shelves can hold. They are not intended to be benches. We have found that they can easily hold 3 150-180 pounds adults.

We used 6 Capita legs (different heights available), 2 at each end and 2 spot in the middle. Choose the height of the leg depending on the height of your table - we used the 10" size. I chose 5 Iris chair pads as they fit the length and depth of the bench almost perfectly. The cubbyholes can now be sued for baskets or other storage containers for toys, games, table linens. etc

A last trick for rented homes and apartments, hang your own lighting or ask your landlord to do it. If it doesn't require a change to the existing electrical hardware, it is easy to put up and then take down when you leave. And really, it makes such a huge impact. We hung a Kroby light fixture and even installed a dimmer switch. The switch we'll probably leave for the next tenants - every overhead light should be on a dimmer in my opinion.

BOXED WATER IS BETTER

I read this about this new company yesterday in the NYT, and its a genius idea. This is going to be everywhere in about a minute. I hope the buyers at Whole Foods are on this.

Benjamin Gott has produced this Eco-friendly packaged purified water in recycled materials, with 10 percent of the profits to a foresty foundation and another 10 percent to water conservation foundations. AMAZING.

CHIC DESIGN that is good for the earth and us. I want to buy one just to keep the packaging.

CONAN O'BRIEN'S BACK

This week was a very special week for me. For some reason, life has not been boring lately.

#1. I was on the Nate Berkus show yesterday, Nov 10, as a very very short segment called HOUSE PROUD. Its a Short segment on ridiculous people boasting about their apartments. Yes, I know, but wouldn't you if they called you to do it?
Anyways, when taping it, I was so nervous (which is really unlike me)... SO nervous, I really feel like I blacked out while still being conscious and standing. I don't recall anything he asked me or what I said, but I do remember feeling like my head was the size of one of those workout balls that you stretch out on at the gym.

I usually don't get nervous when I meet celebrities. Been there done that. I think I have met about 300 celebrities over the last decade and the only people I got really excited about where I studdered a bit when speaking was Bill Gates, Photographer Peggy Sirota when I was 26, and Michael Jordan.

Anyways...focus Sharon...so the point its, this was a special week. It was AWESOME.

#2. Conan O'Brien back on TBS. Love the beard. He looks well rested and having Seth Rogan as his first guest means that he is in buisness. I like his HUGE set, and his 11pm time slot.

I met him in 1999 for a story we were doing at Vanity Fair, and Timothy Greenfield-Sanders was the photographer, and I was the photo editor on that story. I remember going to the studio, laughing from the minute I got there to the minute I left. Somehow, I ended up leaving there with a shot of me on his lap, Riza Cruz, the editor next to him grinning, and Timothy in a group shot with folded arms laughing. He truely is one of the funniest people I have ever met. I met him again a few years later for a shoot for Instyle Magazine where I was the photo editor on. Again, another day of hearty chuckles. He is just one of my favorite celebrities. If you are going to waste an hour, why not do it laughing.

PLEASE...click on the title above. If you have had a HARD DAY TODAY...just watch this video of him interviewing Martha Stewart. Its one of my favorites.

BOTTEGA VENETA BVX WATCH

I was reading T Magazine and saw this unbelievable watch that I had to show you. Its a sexy chic unisex watch that I find so chic and hip, that I wish I could buy one. They are about $15,000.

REELSOUNDTRACK

If you are a movie geek like me, you love soundtracks. I watched a Whip it the other day since I bumped into actress Ellen Page in the park walking my dog. I guess my dog, reminded her of her dog, and she asked me what her name was. I quickly became really embarrassed...Should I lie? Make up a new name in fear of thinking I was a some sort of weird LA stalker type? (My dog's name is Juno).
So, I told her, and she laughed.

I rescued "ebony" a few months ago, and I had just watched Juno the night before on HBO. I figured why should I give her an uncool name like Ebony when I could give her a name like Diablo Cody's inspired character named after a Roman Goddess. Enough said, I made a new friend.

Non sequitur... I rented Whip it and the soundtrack was so random. Dolly Parton, Landgon Pigg,The Ramones, Band of Skulls, to Wilson Phillips? Sort of a hot mess in a good way.
This lead me to google it and then I came across this AMAZING BLOG called REELSOUNDTRACK. This dude lists all the tracks to popular movies.

ART AT HOME

I think the most important thing when you are decorating your place as I mention in an earlier post, is the walls. Paint and wallpaper is what I decided to use to give my home a personality but what I forgot to mention is Art up on the Walls!

I have a collection of photographs, illustrations and international post cards that I have collected over the last 10 years. All my travels around the world are up and I am reminded daily of the things I experienced. Also, the photographers that have given me gifts over the last decade, also remind me of an exciting time, which again are up on my walls. We are the Sum of All our Experiences,so my feeling is that if you have a sterile apartment, that looks like a hotel room, consider art. Make it personal. Whether its a post card that you got in Paris, a piece of street art, a piece that you bought at a fancy gallery, perhaps one lost earring from India that bring nice memories in a small frame, your child's drawings collaged, your favorite colorful plates, or a mass produced canvas from Ikea...put something on the walls. It will transform your space and you get to be the curator. Here are some photos to inspire you.

THE SARTORIALIST FOR INSPIRATION

This is my follow post to what I had said a few weeks ago. LA PEOPLE ARE NOT STYLISH.
People...just cause you bought something at Fred Segal's or BarneysNewYork, or Neiman's does not make it stylish. People ask me why I bother to dress up everyday...and I'm thinking...am I dressed up? I am trying very hard to keep the rolling of the eyes that I find myself doing often to myself these days.

There is an amazing blog that I look to often for fashion inspiration. I was on the fence about sharing it but most of you fashionista's know about it and its a great way for me to see what's out there on the streets. Scott Schuman's blog has many amazing contributor's now, but his monthly page in GQ is always a fun read. Here are some of his street finds in Paris, Milan, London and New York. Check it out by clicking on the title above.

MISSONMOD IN NY AREA

When I lived in Cobble Hill Brooklyn earlier this year, I shopped at online at a place called MISSIONMOD that I found online. I didn't tell anyone about it because I was greedy and wanted all the mid-century deals to myself. Now that I don't live in NY anymore, I am sharing. I have attached a few things that I browsed quickly but really do the research and you will find some great finds. The prices for items ARE EVERY REASONABLE. Lamps usually $175, the credenza's usually go for $300. They have this amazing aluminum barcart that is such a great find for $175 which I didn't attach cause the server wouldn't let me but it was the best thing they had. MissionMod is located in NJ, so you will need a car to pick the items up or they do deliver to NY.
